Our community is growing!
I admit I have borrowed the title of today’s blog post straight from Disney’s The Lion King. It is that great line where the baboon, Rafiki, looks at the grown-up Simba and let’s him know that it is now time to do what he needs to be doing. And so it is with blogging about the events happening at Pre-GED School.
For weeks, I have committed to write about the buzz that is going on:
- The brainstorming breakfast filled with volunteer teachers, board members and students exchanging ideas and planning for the fall.
- Registration week filled with students from 9 different countries testing, planning, and getting ready for the fall semester kick-off.
- The students that have completed their studies at Pre-GED School and have moved on to full fledged GED classes at our sister organization, The Wilkinson Center.
- The joy when we found out that both of last year’s childcare interns from our partnership with Alley’s House are now beginning higher education.
- How we have a great team of former and current students that are now volunteering with the school doing everything from teaching to grant research and all things in between.
- That our classes are full and attendance is good. We have 74 students this year up from 60 last year.
Yes, there is all sorts of good stuff going on this school year and it is time to share it.
